About

Building a culture of peace is everyone’s concern and we can do it, now!

The discourse of conflict prevention and peace building is no longer the exclusive domain of governments, parties in conflict and established formations of peace advocates. The urgency of developing and sustaining a culture of peace should be in the consciousness of everyone. A public perception oriented towards peace is essential.

Mainstream media is still struggling to balance reporting of conflict situations. Most often, the entertainment and  economic values of war reporting take center stage over the sufferings of victims of war and stories of communities caught in conflicts. Voices of ordinary peoples working for peace are also drowned by high-profile peace negotiations and governmental initiatives.

About iblogforpeace

iblogforPeace seeks to broaden the discourse on peace by providing an online platform for civil society, particularly the unorganized and the bloggers community, to take part in the conversations in their own contexts and engage in dialogues with kindred individuals and groups such as peace advocates. It hopes to help influence and change dominant public opinion and culture skewed towards armed and violent resolutions of conflicts and convey the urgency of fostering a culture where peace can thrive.

The site aggregates blog articles, videos and podcasts primarily on ordinary peoples’ take on peace, stories of victims of war and of individuals and organizations working for peace. It will also offer a regular channel for peace journalists to showcase their stories, video-documentaries and photo essays.

Anyone can participate, although it is targeted primarily to ordinary bloggers, blogger communities, peace journalists and members of the Global Partnership for the Prevention of Armed Conflict (GPPAC), a network of local, national, regional and international civil society organizations working on a more effective and meaningful engagement by civil society with governments and multilateral organizations in conflict prevention and peace building.

The Initiatives for International Dialogue (IID), regional secretariat of GPPAC-Southeast Asia, hosts and maintains this blog..
